Director of Vulnerable Children Directorate
Nicky knows how much of a difference social care work can make to individual lives. She's the Director of Children's Social work in Essex. It's a hugely complex and demanding role, but highly rewarding too.
She talks about the fact that Essex County Council works with a number of partner agencies and operates across local authority boundaries. This requires a multi-agency approach and the key challenge she faces is making sure the right services are delivered to the children and young people who need them most.
Career-wise, Nicky highlights the range of opportunities open to people at Essex, due to the size of the authority and the variety of services they offer. The team itself is just as diverse, and is made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures and countries.
Ultimately, Nicky wants people to feel like they could spend their entire career at Essex. She herself has been in social work for 30 years and feels immensely privileged to be in a position where she can help others get just as much out of their careers.
