Living and Working in Essex
Essex offers a variety of locations, from rural villages and seaside towns such as Clacton and Walton and all of which are within easy access to London. The county is home to England's oldest recorded town, Colchester, as well as two of its newest – Basildon and Harlow.
As the second most populated county in England, with 1.4 million residents, Essex has a large concentration of people in the south east bordering London, with one third of a million people living in an area of 40 square miles. This means there are also large rural areas in mid and north east Essex, and almost 75% of the county's land area is agricultural. In the south is the Thames Gateway, one of the country's key growth areas. In the north east is the country’s major port to northern Europe, Harwich, and in the west is Stansted Airport.
All this means that, wherever you're based in Essex, you’ll enjoy a varied social life and a wide choice of places to live, as well as an interesting and rewarding career.
